We commissioned a Seattle glass blower to create our brand new limited edition sea salt holder, designed in homage to Bob's antique glass floats which he collected as a bush pilot in Alaska.
Bob hand cuts bamboo to act both as a stand for the glass ball and a cellar for our Mendocino sea salt, contained in the glass ball. The ball is sealed with a cork.
We create our artisan sea salt from water which we gather 5-10 miles off the Mendocino coast of California. We then slowly simmer the water using the English tradition, resulting in a delicate taste and graceful texture unlike any other sea salt. Its icy, flaky grain allows it to crumble quickly when applied to food at presentation. Since our salt crystals are light and hollow, the use of a salt grinder is not necessary. You can actually crush the crystals between your fingers, a pleasing feeling that only adds to the anticipation of what is to come. Our sea salt brings out the depth of natural flavors in any dish.
